Cuenta con una superficie de\u00a0 599,8 km 2. y una densidad de 52,80 hab\/km\u00b2. La localidad de N\u00edjar se encuentra situada a una altitud de 356 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">metros<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> y a unos 30 km de la capital de provincia, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Almer\u00eda<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En la comarca de N\u00edjar se encuentra el <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">parque natural de Cabo de Gata-N\u00edjar<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, reconocido como <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geoparque<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> por la <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unesco<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> en <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1999<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Se tienen indicios de presencia humana en el municipio desde el <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">periodo mesol\u00edtico<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> -unos 10 000 a\u00f1os atr\u00e1s- por las figuras p\u00e9treas encontradas en la zona de <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los Escullos<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El Ayuntamiento de N\u00edjar pretende alcanzar la participaci\u00f3n ciudadana como mecanismo de impulso de la democracia representativa para conseguir una efectiva conectividad de los ciudadanos con sus representantes. Esa participaci\u00f3n se fomentar\u00e1 en la definici\u00f3n de las pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas y en la toma de decisiones, que deber\u00e1n basarse en un proceso de gobierno abierto tal y como definen las presentes normas, as\u00ed como en el impulso de la vida asociativa en el municipio, en todas sus formas y variantes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Las competencias de participaci\u00f3n ciudadana del <\/span><b>Ayuntamiento de N\u00edjar <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">se enmarcan en el <\/span><b>\u00c1rea de Participaci\u00f3n Ciudadana<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, y est\u00e1n coordinadas a trav\u00e9s de <\/span><b>la Concejal\u00eda de <\/b><b>Participaci\u00f3n Ciudadana <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">por <\/span><b>la Delegaci\u00f3n de Participaci\u00f3n Ciudadana Festejos y Tercera Edad.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De acuerdo con <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nijarparticipa.es\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">la p\u00e1gina web del \u00c1rea<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, las personas responsables son:<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Nieves L\u00f3pez Morales<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Concejala Delegada de Participaci\u00f3n Ciudadana Festejos y Tercera Edad<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El Ayuntamiento cuenta con los siguientes \u00f3rganos de participaci\u00f3n:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Los Consejos Sectoriales<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u00f3rganos de participaci\u00f3n de naturaleza consultiva, informativa y asesora en el \u00e1mbito municipal, referida a los distintos sectores de actuaci\u00f3n en los que el Ayuntamiento tiene competencias.
